An envelope marked ' Typescripts of the Severn Letters, The Property of Lady Birkenhead', containing 6 'Unpublished holograph letters from Joseph Severn to his daughter Eleanor' dated between 11th September 1876 and 5th February 1878; 3pp. Typed List of Letters relating to Keats from Joseph Severn et al. 'These mss. are in the possession of Walter T. Spencer'; A photograph of Edgcumbe(?); 2 post cards, one of Greensted Church, Ongar addressed to Miss Thelma Wearing, the other of the Union-Castle Royal Mail Motor Vessel Athlone Castle addressed to Edgcumbe. 3. Preliminary typescript, loose leafed, with pencil and ink annotations. 4. Interleaved typescript, with Edgcumbe's corrections, entitled 'Letters from Fanny Brawne to Fanny Keats 1820 - 1824. Conditions under which these letters may be read. These letters are to be kept from the public until the year 1961, although their examination by students is allowed; and there is no objection to the publication of any conclusions which may result, but no quotations can be made nor any reference to the letters as authority for such statements or opinions. It is also conditioned that no use shall be made of their contents which may tend to reflect unfavourably upon the persons concerned or mentioned in the correspondence.' In MS Edited by Fred Edgcumbe with a foreword by Maurice Buxton Forman. OUP. 1936. Small stamp Keats Memorial Library. Bound in typescript copy of a letter from Julius H. Tuttle to Mr McColvin stating the terms of the anonymous gift of the 31 letters to the Keats Memorial Library and loosely inserted typescript detailing McColvin's trip to the United States to visit the anonymous donor and allow publication of the letters. This was delayed from December 1936 to January 1937 due to a 'national crisis'.
