Boards, later cloth spine with label. The half title and taitle page for the second volume are lacking but the advertisments are present. There is a small burn hole on pp. 187/188 in the second volume not affecting the text. The Observations Preliminaires are by Charles Nodier. Viets in his The London Editions of Polidori's The Vampyre mentions this work in his discussion of publications not in London ' In Paris an imitation of Le Vampire was written by Cyprien Berard ... and published under the auspices of Charles Nodier in 1820. The footnote states 'First published in Feb 1820 ...Berard's novel was popular and a second edition was called for in July.' Both works have the characters of Aubrey and Lord Ruthven.
