London. For the Proprietor by Hurst, Chance & Co. 1828. pp. viii, 360. Presentation plate, engraved title, frontis and 16 plates. 8vo. Full red morocco with gilt decoration, all edges gilt. The hinges are rubbed but solid. The binding is by C. Smith. There is a rather dull/dark fore edge painting of Ye Old Cheshire Cheese, a pub/chop house still in existence on Fleet Street, a haunt of many literary cahracters including Samuel Johnson and Charles Dickens who described the pub in A Tale of Two Cities. The two short stories by Mary Shelley are The Sisters of Albano, an Italian romance and Ferdinando Eboli, a Gothic tale - both first published in this volume.
