'Blaquiere went out to Greece in 1823 to collect information for the London Committee; he saw Byron at Genoa and was influential in getting him to go to Greece. He returned to London and on his second visit to Greece arrived after Byron's death. His account is therefore second hand. Part II, dealing with Byron is in part reprinted from the Westminster Review. He praises the fine qualities of character and leadership exhibited by Byron at Missolonghi, saying that Byron 'has raised the best monument to his own fame, and has furnished the most conclusive reply to calumny and detraction.'
